Islam and Christianity (Five Pillars of Islam)

In Islam, we believe in all the prophets and messengers of Allah such as Adam, Abraham (Ibrahim), Noah, Moses, Jesus (Isa) and the last and final messenger Muhammad (peace be upon them all). Allah sent scriptures or revelations to different prophets and messengers in different time and they used to follow the revelations and conveyed the message of Allah to their nations. But people corrupted the scriptures after the prophet or messengers passed. Finally, Quran was revealed to the messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a guidance for the whole humanity until the last day. Allah confirmed in the Quran that He will protect it.

Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. [15:9]

Falsehood cannot approach it from before it or from behind it; [it is] a revelation from a [Lord who is] Wise and Praiseworthy. [41:42]

It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah son of 'Umar (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: (The superstructure of) al-Islam is raised on five (pillars), testifying (the fact) that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is His bondsman and messenger, and the establishment of prayer, payment of Zakat, Pilgrimage to the House (Ka'ba) and the fast of Ramadan. [Sahih Muslim, Book 1: The Book of Faith, Hadith 20]

Now, let's see a little more about it InShaAllah: -

1. Shahada/One God:

Quran:
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent." [Qur'an 112:1-4]

[Jesus said], "And indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path." [Qur’an 19:36]

And your god is one God. There is no deity [worthy of worship] except Him, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. [Quran 2:163]

Do not make [as equal] with Allah another deity and [thereby] become censured and forsaken. And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, [Quran 17:22-23]

Say, "O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except Allah and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allah." But if they turn away, then say, "Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]." [Qur’an 3:64]

Indeed, I am Allah . There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance. [20:14]

Bible:
“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. [Mark 12:29]

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. [Deuteronomy 6:4]

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. [Numbers 23:19]

I am the LORD, and there is no other, besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do not know me, [Isaiah 45:5]

For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. [1 Timothy 2:5]

so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol, an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman, or like any animal on earth or any bird that flies in the air, or like any creature that moves along the ground or any fish in the waters below. And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars—all the heavenly array—do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the LORD your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven. [Deuteronomy 4:16-19]

2. Salah/Prayer:

Quran:
And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience]. [2:43]

And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah]. [2:45]

Your ally is none but Allah and [therefore] His Messenger and those who have believed - those who establish prayer and give zakah, and they bow [in worship]. [5:55]

Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds and establish prayer and give zakah will have their reward with their Lord, and there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve. [2:277]

Bible:
Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” [Matthew 26:39]
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only. [Luke 4:8]
Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. [Deuteronomy 6:13]

3. Zakah/Charity:

Quran:
Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveller, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives zakah; [those who] fulfil their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous. [2:177]

The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger. Those - Allah will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. [9:71]

Bible:
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. [Hebrews 10:24]

4. Siam/Fasting:

Quran:
O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous. [2:183]

The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful. [2:185]

Bible:
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. [Matthew 4:1-2]

5. Hajj/Pilgrimage

Quran:
And [mention] when We made the House a place of return for the people and [a place of] security. And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer. And We charged Abraham and Ishmael, [saying], "Purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who are staying [there] for worship and those who bow and prostrate [in prayer]." [2:125]

They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the new moons. Say, "They are measurements of time for the people and for Hajj." And it is not righteousness to enter houses from the back, but righteousness is [in] one who fears Allah. And enter houses from their doors. And fear Allah that you may succeed. [2:189]

Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Makkah - blessed and a guidance for the worlds. [3:96]

Bible:
Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. [Psalm 84:5-6]

Hope you enjoyed reading the scriptures and would be interested to do more research to find the truth. Thank you.
